What Is An Accessible Environment
An accessible environment is one which is usable by everyone. It is a place where everyone can participate fully, equally and independently without barriers. In an ideal world the built environment would be universally accessible to all in the community. Historically however, the approach to design has seldom taken into account the diverse abilities of a population.
This approach is changing slowly as the EU and Ireland adopt initiatives which encourage a more inclusive planning and design methodology. Meanwhile, designers continue to plan buildings which are not accessible to all.
TMS Configure’s work is in retro fitting existing buildings to counter the barriers that people with disabilities and the older population will experience.
